Manage your profile, connect your own AI API key, and understand your plan limits and usage.

Profile & Avatar

Go to Settings → Profile to update:

Display Name

Your display name appears in the sidebar and on shared pages. It can be changed any time — no cooldown.

Username

Your username appears in the URL of your public share links. It must be 3–30 characters: lowercase letters, digits, and underscores only.

Warning

There is a 30-day cooldown between username changes. Choose carefully — once changed, you must wait 30 days to change again. Changing your username breaks any previously shared links.

Experience Level

Choose from Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Expert. This tells the AI how deep and technical to be in explanations. You can change it any time — the change takes effect on the next AI response.

Avatar

8 avatar icons are available including the AlgoTrace logo. Click any icon to select it. The selected icon gets a green ring highlight. Click Save Changes to apply — your new avatar appears in the sidebar immediately.

BYOK — Bring Your Own Gemini Key

Max plan

BYOK is a Max exclusive feature. It lets you connect your own Gemini API key so that AI requests use your key's quota instead of AlgoTrace's.

Why Use BYOK?

Gemini API keys have generous free quotas. If you're a heavy user hitting the 300 req/day Max limit, BYOK effectively gives you unlimited requests at no extra cost (Gemini's free tier is very generous for personal use).

How to Set Up BYOK

Get a free Gemini API key

Go to aistudio.google.com/app/apikey → Create API Key. This is free — no payment required.

Go to Settings → Your Gemini Key

Paste the key into the input field and click Validate.

AlgoTrace validates the key is active

A green checkmark and "Connected" state appears if the key is valid. If the key is invalid or revoked, an error is shown.

Choose your Quota Mode

·Use AlgoTrace quota normally — your key is saved but only used as overflow if you hit limits.
·Always use my key — every AI request uses your key. AlgoTrace quota is never touched.

Choose your Preferred Model

·Flash Lite — fastest, lowest cost per request
·Flash — balanced speed and quality (recommended)
·Flash + Thinking — deep reasoning on hard problems (slowest, highest quality)

Note

Your API key is encrypted at rest using AES-256. It is never logged, never included in AI responses, and is only decrypted server-side at request time. You can revoke it at any time from the Settings page.

Viewing Your Usage

The Billing & Usage page (sidebar → Billing) shows real-time usage for all quotas:

·Daily AI requests used / remaining (with progress bar)
·Conversation count · Notebook count · Extension sessions
·DeepTrace runs this month · TraceCards sets this month

Upgrading

Click Upgrade on the Billing page or click any locked feature — an upgrade modal will appear with plan options and regional pricing (₹ for India, $ for all other regions).

Payments are processed by:

·Razorpay — for users in India (UPI, cards, net banking supported)
·Dodo Payments — for users in all other countries

Cancellation & Downgrade

You can cancel or downgrade at any time from the Billing page. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep full access until then.

Downgrading to a lower plan does not delete your data. Conversations, notebooks, and boards beyond the lower plan's limits are hidden (not deleted) and become accessible again if you re-upgrade.
